Hiking through the Beegderheide
The Beegder Sagenroute starts at the car park at Beegderheide, between Horn and Beegden. From here, you walk via junctions on both paved and unpaved paths through the varied landscape. The Beegderheide, once a vast heathland area, is now a green wooded area with open plains and sand drifts. Along the way, you pass an old sand quarry and enjoy beautiful views over the Meuse valley.
Legends along the route
What makes this route extra special are the stories you will encounter along the way. The Heritage association Heemkunde Beegden has placed several information boards along the path with legends from the region. The stories can be read in both Dutch and Beegden dialect and give a unique insight into local history and folk tales. This makes the route fun not only for nature lovers, but also for hikers interested in culture and history.
An ideal walk for young and old
The Beegder Sagenroute is also suitable for walking with children, thanks to its short distance and well-trodden paths. There are several benches along the route where you can take a rest and enjoy the surroundings. The variety of forest, open landscape and historical elements makes this route highly recommended for a relaxing walk in Limburg.
