During your bike ride through Beesel and its beautiful surroundings, you'll pass places that remind you of the story of Saint George and the Dragon. In and around Beesel, you'll see many dragons in the streets. But every seven years, the entire village transforms into a medieval setting for the Dragon Festival. This outdoor play tells the story of Saint George and the Dragon, a battle between good and evil.
Many residents of Beesel participate in the play. Everyone contributes to this centuries-old tradition whether they were born or live there. The Dragon Festival has become an important part of the community. People often say that the residents of Beesel have "dragon blood" in their veins. That's why Beesel is also called the Dragon Village.
