The 10-kilometre Peerkesbosch walking route starts at Peerkesbosch in Nederweert. You walk through the Weerterbos and Hugterheide, on the border between Limburg and Noord-Brabant. Along the way, you pass the Grenskerkmonument and the observation tower. Woods, pools and small areas of heathland alternate throughout the walk.

Walking through the Weerterbos

The Weerterbos lies in the northernmost part of GrensPark KempenBroek. In July 2024, UNESCO recognised KempenBroek as a Man & Biosphere area. It is the first cross-border Man & Biosphere area in the Benelux. During your walk, you pass through old, damp deciduous woods and alongside pools and small areas of heathland. Red deer also live in this area. In autumn, the rutting season attracts many visitors to the forest.

From the woods to the Hugterheide

The Hugterheide lies on the western side of the Weerterbos. Here the landscape changes and you walk through drier woods, with patches of heathland here and there. Listen out for the birds along the way too. Species found in the area include the yellowhammer, crested tit and nuthatch.

Start at Peerkesbosch

You start the route at Peerkesbosch, Heugterweg 2 in Nederweert. Before or after your walk, you can enjoy something to eat or drink here, indoors or outside, from a cup of coffee to lunch or dinner. This makes Peerkesbosch a convenient place to start or finish your walk.
